FOREIGN LAND (Nuri Granth – Vol. II - Page 1114)

The whole day, there resounds, only this chant within me,
No news has come from the land of the Beloved!
Distressed, I wander in this foreign land,
And without the Beloved, greatly bewildered I am!

No messenger bird has come this morning,
And my whole day has passed,
with my hopes remaining unfulfilled!
No courier has come, nor any message,
The Beloved has not kept his promise,
and far distant is he gone!

Even if only the wind blows a little sharply,
I quickly look around with great expectations,
And again and again, I call out: “Who is come?”
If I hear a knock at the door,
There arises a great expectation in my heart!

People understand me not, nor do I speak to any one,
But O Evening! I seek the news of the Beloved from you!
Without the Beloved, how can I sleep tonight?
I am being oppressed by my grief and anguish!

I will not permit any one else to sit on the throne of my heart,
And I will fill my heart, only with your remembrance!
Return now, and revive this lifeless one, says Nuri,
And concealed from the people,
just let me have a glimpse of you!
